Best Online Yoga Certifications 2026: Compare 3 Courses

Best Online Yoga Certifications in 2026: Compare Cost, Credentials and Course Format

Last reviewed 30 September 2026. Course formats, credential details, and prices were checked on official provider pages on that date. Prices and promotions change often, so verify the current total before enrolling.

Written and fact checked by the ExpertRating Editorial Team.

The best online yoga certification depends on what you need the credential to do. If you want Yoga Alliance RYT 200 eligibility, look for a qualifying 200 hour program from a Registered Yoga School. If you want an affordable introduction to yoga instruction and do not need RYT registration, a shorter foundational certificate may be enough.

This guide compares ExpertRating, My Vinyasa Practice, and YogaRenew by credential type, cost, course format, assessment, practice teaching, support, and completion time. ExpertRating offers a lower cost foundational certificate. My Vinyasa Practice and YogaRenew offer 200 hour programs that may allow qualifying graduates to apply separately for RYT 200 registration.

Quick Answer: Which Online Yoga Certification Fits Your Goal

Quick answer: Choose a Registered Yoga School’s 200 hour program if Yoga Alliance registration matters for where you plan to teach. Choose a shorter foundational certificate, such as ExpertRating’s, if cost, speed, and basic teaching knowledge matter more than registration. Either way, confirm the current total price and your employer’s requirements before you pay.

Start here: decide whether you need RYT 200 eligibility, then compare total cost, assessment, and live support.

Disclosure: ExpertRating publishes this comparison and offers one of the three courses reviewed. Facts about every course come from the providers’ official pages and from Yoga Alliance and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, all listed in Sources and Fact Check References at the end of this guide.

How We Compared the Online Yoga Certifications

This is a focused comparison of three selected courses, not a ranking of the whole market. The courses illustrate distinct combinations of price, credential type, delivery format, and learner support.

Each course was checked against the same criteria: cost, credential, format, prerequisites, assessment, live support, completion time, refund terms, and Yoga Alliance status. Facts come from each provider’s official pages, Yoga Alliance, and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Where a provider does not publish a detail, we say so instead of estimating it.

Which Online Yoga Course Is Best for You

ExpertRating Yoga Instructor Certification

Best suited to: beginners who want a lower cost foundational certificate and do not need Yoga Alliance registration.

It is also a common starting point for career changers moving into wellness work and for people building yoga teaching as a side income alongside another job.

Less suitable if: you need an RYT 200 designation, live mentorship, or supervised practice teaching.

ExpertRating states plainly that this course is not affiliated with Yoga Alliance and does not lead to an RYT designation. Review the ExpertRating Yoga Instructor Certification syllabus, exam, renewal terms, and current $99.99 price before enrolling.

My Vinyasa Practice 200 Hour Online YTT

Best suited to: learners who want live lectures, office hours, and mentorship alongside a route to RYT 200 registration.

Less suitable if: you want to finish in under nine weeks, since the provider lists a nine week minimum.

See My Vinyasa Practice’s 200 Hour Online YTT for the current price and syllabus.

YogaRenew 200 Hour Online YTT

Best suited to: learners who want fully self paced study, live online calls, and a route to RYT 200 registration.

Less suitable if: you prefer a fixed cohort schedule with required live teaching practice and real time assessment.

See YogaRenew’s 200 Hour Online YTT for today’s price and syllabus.

A note on outcomes: completing any of these courses does not guarantee employment, income, or clients. Treat each one as a credential and a learning path, not a job placement.

Yoga Alliance Registration and Credential Recognition

These programs are not university degrees. My Vinyasa Practice and YogaRenew describe their schools as Registered Yoga Schools (RYS) with Yoga Alliance, a professional registry. ExpertRating does not lead to Yoga Alliance registration. Some providers use the word accredited to mean Yoga Alliance registration, so read what a school means by it, and verify each school in the Yoga Alliance directory before enrolling.

ExpertRating states that it is ISO 9001:2015 certified for quality management and a member of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (I.C.E.). Those describe the organization’s quality systems. They are not accreditation of the yoga course itself.

Training Certificate vs RYT 200 Registration

Completing eligible training does not automatically make you a Registered Yoga Teacher. Graduates of a Registered Yoga School’s 200 hour program apply to Yoga Alliance separately, and shorter courses cannot be combined to qualify, according to the Yoga Alliance Help Center.

Yoga Alliance’s application guide lists a one time application fee of $50 plus $65 in annual membership dues, or $115 for the first year, and members must complete continuing education on a three year cycle. Fees and steps can change, so confirm them with Yoga Alliance before you apply.

What Employers and Insurers May Require

If a studio, employer, or insurer requires or prefers Yoga Alliance registration, choose qualifying training from a Registered Yoga School and confirm the exact requirement before enrolling. YogaRenew’s own FAQ makes the same point, noting that it cannot speak for every organization’s hiring criteria.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics adds that group fitness instructors may begin work without certification, but employers often encourage or require credentials, and requirements vary by facility. For wider career context, it reports a median annual wage of $47,160 in May 2025 for exercise trainers and group fitness instructors, the occupation group that includes yoga instructors, and projects 7 percent employment growth from 2025 to 2035. This is not a yoga specific earnings estimate or a guarantee.

ExpertRating’s own course page adds that corporate wellness initiatives can also create opportunities to lead workplace fitness and mind body classes, alongside studios, fitness centres, recreation facilities, and clients’ homes.

Insurance is a separate check. YogaRenew lists a discounted insurance offer through BeYogi for enrolled students, and insurers set their own credential rules.

Practice Teaching, Live Support, and Assessment

ExpertRating’s course covers yoga foundations, 75+ yoga asanas and stretching exercises, pranayama, sequencing, and the basics of running a yoga teaching practice, supported by 120+ sequential instructional images. It ends with an online multiple-choice exam, which you can retake up to three times for $20 each. The course page does not list supervised practice teaching or live sessions.

My Vinyasa Practice pairs prerecorded lectures with live weekend lectures on Zoom, which are recorded, and over 15 weekly office hours with lead trainers and its peer support team. Its 200 hour program pages list two sequencing assignments and a practicum package made up of a practice log sheet, a one hour karma class, and a reflection essay.

YogaRenew combines videos, readings, workbooks, quizzes, and live Zoom calls, with mentors and a student community. It issues the certificate after you complete the program in its entirety. The course page does not publish a pass mark, a practicum requirement, or a resubmission policy, so request the syllabus from YogaRenew if assessment details matter to your decision.

Online Yoga Certification Cost and What Is Included

Exact prices appear once, in the comparison table above, with the date they were checked. Promotions change, so confirm the amount at checkout.

ExpertRating’s fee covers the courseware, the exam, an online transcript, and a downloadable PDF certificate. Retakes cost extra, and renewal after one year costs $30 and issues a new PDF certificate. You can access the study material after you pass.

My Vinyasa Practice says required texts are included in electronic format and that no additional costs apply beyond the purchase price, though you may choose to buy the recommended books. Its price appears as a sale price against a higher regular price, and other pages on its site have advertised different amounts.

YogaRenew also shows a sale price against a much higher regular price, and its six month plan costs more in total than paying in full. Its page lists two recommended books and states that there are no extra charges for taking longer to finish. Yoga Alliance registration is a separate cost, covered in the registration section above.

Before you compare total cost, check: the pay in full price, the installment total, any books or equipment, exam retake and renewal fees, Yoga Alliance application and membership fees, insurance, and the refund window.

Refund Windows, Payment Plans, and Extra Fees

Refund terms differ. YogaRenew states a 30 day full refund window on its course page, and My Vinyasa Practice states a 30 day money back guarantee in the FAQ on its school site. ExpertRating’s Terms of Service say refunds are granted at the company’s discretion in exceptional circumstances, that a request must be raised within 15 days of purchase, and that digital content already accessed or downloaded may not be refundable.

Access after you finish is described differently by each provider. ExpertRating says you can open the study material after passing. My Vinyasa Practice describes lifetime access to materials and lifetime mentorship at no additional fee. YogaRenew says lifetime access includes its live calls. Read the current terms on each checkout page before paying.

Curriculum Comparison: What Each Course Teaches

ExpertRating covers the principles and practices of yoga, asanas across standing, seated, prone, supine, inverted, and advanced categories, pranayama breathing techniques and stress management, anatomy and muscular system basics, sequencing, Sanskrit and English pose names, and the fundamentals of managing a yoga instructor business. The pranayama and stress management content is educational, covering breathing technique and general stress awareness, and is not a therapeutic or medical practice.

The course frames itself around wellness and mindfulness throughout, alongside its technical asana and pranayama content, though its published curriculum does not list a standalone meditation module.

My Vinyasa Practice covers the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Samkhya and Vedanta philosophy, dharma and karma, anatomy and physiology, sequencing and cueing across the Hatha, Ashtanga, and Viniyoga lineages, chakras and asana energetics, adaptive and inclusive teaching, and introductions to yoga nidra, restorative, yin, prenatal, Ayurveda, and the business of yoga. The provider lists over 50 hours of lecture content, more than 40 ebooks, and over 20 hours of video.

YogaRenew covers yoga history and philosophy, including the Yoga Sutras, the eight limbs, the Upanishads, and the Bhagavad Gita, along with yoga anatomy, detailed guidance for 50 postures with alignment principles and adjustments, pranayama, meditation, mudras, sequencing and class structure, chakras, different styles of yoga, teaching tips, and yoga business and marketing.

How to Choose an Online Yoga Certification

No single course checks every box for every learner. Work through these factors in order:

  • Start with your goal: do you need Yoga Alliance RYT registration where you want to teach, or a foundational credential first?
  • Then credential type: if a studio or employer requires or prefers Yoga Alliance registration, choose qualifying training from a Registered Yoga School and confirm the requirement. A foundational certificate can still work for personal clients or studios without a formal requirement.
  • Then budget: compare total cost, including installment premiums, retake fees, and Yoga Alliance’s separate registration fees.
  • Then format: decide how much live instruction, mentorship, or self paced flexibility you want, and how quickly you want to finish.

Verification Checklist Before You Enroll

  • Total cost: pay in full price, installment total, extra fees, and refund window, as covered above.
  • Live sessions: confirm which calls are mandatory, whether recordings count toward completion, and which time zones are served.
  • Course access: confirm whether lifetime access includes future updates, live calls, community access, and downloadable materials.
  • Local requirements: ask target studios, employers, and insurers which training hours, registration, first aid, safeguarding, and liability coverage they require.
  • Instructor qualifications: My Vinyasa Practice names Michelle Young, a certified yoga therapist, as lead of its program, with more faculty listed on its course page. YogaRenew names Kate Lombardo and Patrick Franco as directors and lists more than 30 instructors on it’s about page. ExpertRating says its courseware was developed with input from experienced yoga educators but does not name them on the course page. Ask each provider who teaches which modules.
  • Accessibility: the course pages reviewed do not publish details such as captions, transcripts, or screen reader support. Ask before enrolling if you need them.
  • Experience level: no provider lists a formal prerequisite, but that does not establish readiness. Ask about recommended practice experience and modifications for injuries or health conditions. My Vinyasa Practice says required texts are included in electronic format.

Online Yoga Certification FAQs

Do I need Yoga Alliance RYT 200 registration to teach yoga?

Not for every teaching role. Check the requirements of the studios, employers, insurers, or clients you plan to work with. If they require RYT 200, complete an eligible 200 hour program through a Registered Yoga School and apply separately to Yoga Alliance.

Which of these online yoga certifications lead to RYT 200 eligibility?

My Vinyasa Practice and YogaRenew each state that graduates of their 200 hour programs can apply to Yoga Alliance for RYT 200 registration. ExpertRating’s Yoga Instructor Certification is a separate foundational certificate and does not lead to RYT registration. Verify each school’s status in the Yoga Alliance directory before you enroll.

How fast can I complete an online yoga certification?

ExpertRating says most learners finish in 2 to 4 weeks at 1 to 2 hours a day. My Vinyasa Practice lists a minimum of 9 weeks. YogaRenew is self paced with no completion deadline, so your timeline depends on your schedule.

Do these programs include supervised practice teaching?

My Vinyasa Practice requires a practicum package that includes a one hour karma class, and it offers live office hours and mentorship. YogaRenew lists mentors, quizzes, and live calls, but its course page does not publish a practicum requirement. ExpertRating’s course page does not list supervised practice teaching.

Which online yoga certification is best for prenatal yoga teachers?

None of the three courses is a dedicated prenatal certification. My Vinyasa Practice’s 200 hour program includes an introduction to prenatal and postnatal yoga, and its programs page mentions bundles that can add an RPYT credential. YogaRenew lists a separate Prenatal Yoga course and says it holds RPYT credentialing. Yoga Alliance also recognizes Registered Prenatal Yoga Schools, so check the requirements of the prenatal credential you want before you choose.

Which online yoga programs offer continuing education credits for teachers?

YogaRenew says graduates of its 200 hour program are eligible for NASM and AFAA continuing education credits. My Vinyasa Practice lists Yoga Alliance and IAYT continuing education units through some of its specialty certifications and bundles. ExpertRating states that its certification does not confer an RYT, RYS, or YACEP designation.

Which online program offers a 500 hour yoga certification?

My Vinyasa Practice lists 200, 300, and 500 hour trainings, and YogaRenew has separate 300 hour and 500 hour course pages. ExpertRating offers a single foundational certificate and no 500 hour pathway. Yoga Alliance says RYT 500 requires either one 500 hour program at a single Registered Yoga School or a 200 hour program plus a 300 hour program, each completed at a Registered Yoga School.

How much does an online yoga certification cost in total?

Tuition is only part of the cost. Add any installment premium, books, exam retakes, renewal fees, Yoga Alliance application and membership fees, and insurance. The comparison table shows the prices we checked on 28 September 2026, and the cost section lists what each provider says is included.

What are the refund and course access terms?

YogaRenew and My Vinyasa Practice each state a 30 day refund window. ExpertRating’s Terms of Service say refunds are discretionary and must be requested within 15 days of purchase. All three describe continued access to course materials after you finish, so read what each provider says access includes before you pay.

Does any of these programs include job placement assistance?

We did not find a job placement guarantee or placement service on the official course pages we reviewed. My Vinyasa Practice and YogaRenew describe mentors and student communities, which are not the same as placement. Ask each provider what career support is included before you enroll.

Choose Your Next Step
